"Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" is a song by Marvin Gaye originally released in 1971, also "I Want You" is a Gaye's song from 1976. Robert Palmer combined the songs in a medley that was released on December 24, 1990, as the third single from his tenth solo studio album Don't Explain (1990). The single reached number 9 on the UK Official Chart on January 26, 191 and number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 20, 1991.
