Before I Turn to You became one of Melanie C's signature solo hits, the song had already been written with another artist in mind. Billy Steinberg and Rick Nowels composed it specifically for Melanie C, who recorded it for her debut solo album, Northern Star. I Turn to You is an excellent example of how the Spice Girls' members began establishing individual identities after the group's enormous success.
