"Born to Be Wild" is a song written by Mars Bonfire and first recorded by Canadian-American rock band Steppenwolf. It was released in May 1968, as the third single from their debut studio album of the same name of the band. The single reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 7, 1968 and at number 30 on the UK Official Chart on July 8, 1969. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later included the song in its list of the “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.”
