Candle in the Wind 1997”, also known as “Goodbye England’s Rose”, is a song by British musician Elton John. The original version was released in 1974 as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. In 1997, following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in a car accident, John re-recorded the song as a memorial to her. Produced by George Martin, it was released on September 13, 1997, as a double A-side with “Something About the Way You Look Tonight”.
The single debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart on September 20, 1997, where it remained for five weeks. In the United States, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 on October 11, 1997, staying at number one for an impressive 14 weeks. On Vitrola Stereo's TOP15 it reached number 5 on November 1, 1997.
