"Crying" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson for Orbison's third studio album, also titled "Crying," released in 1962. Don McLean recorded the song and released it as the second single from his album "Chain Lightning" in May 1980. McLean's version of the song achieved great success, reaching the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart on June 21, 1980, and maintaining that position for three weeks. In the US, it reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1981.
