"Tainted Love" is a song composed by Ed Cobb, formerly of American group the Four Preps, which was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964. It attained worldwide fame after being covered and reworked by British synthpop duo Soft Cell. It was released on July 1981 as the lead single from their debut studio album "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret". "Tainted Love" reached number one on the UK Singles Chart on September 5, 1981, a position it hel for 2 weeks. In ths US it peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 17, 1982.
