Jennifer Lopez will be the next Vegas residency diva

Following the launch of Britney Spears and Mariah Carey's career-rebooting Vegas engagements, Jennifer Lopez has now announced she's doing the same.

Lopez formalized her forthcoming stint at Planet Hollywood during Tuesday's episode of "American Idol." With that show's 15-season run ending next year, Lopez now has time to pursure a lengthy engagement like this, and early hints suggest it will cover the breadth of her career and all its styles.

Lopez said in a statement that "the show is going to be a multifaceted high-energy Jenny from the block party, mixing all aspects of what my fans and I love -- dance, hip hop, Latin and pop. It's going to be the show I've always dreamt of creating."

The engagement follows her most recent album "A.K.A.," which was released in June to generally good reviews. The Times' Gerrick Kennedy said it "showcases a singer better adept at balancing her pop and hip-hop roots. She zips from the dancey title track to the breezy electro-pop of the Max Martin-produced "First Love" to sticky hip-hop offerings such as "Acting Like That" and "I Luh Ya Papi" to torch ballads."
